Hoo Hill Maze is situated on the Hitchin Road, about a mile from Shefford town centre, within an orchard in the grounds of a privately-owned smallholding.
It was designed and planted in the summer of l983, by the owner, John Brindle, using 1000 Golden Leylandii saplings. The basic maze is 30 metres square, with a 6 metre square centre; there is an extension to one side, planted about 1993, slightly less labyrinthine but continuing the theme.
The inspiration for the maze was Woburn Abbey maze, which provided John with many fun-filled hours during his childhood!
To the side of the Orchard there is a large open space ideal for ball-games etc.
From the 8th September 2008 the Maze will no longer be open to the general public. It is still available for private hire (by, e.g. Scouts, Guides, Schools etc. and for private events/parties/functions).For further information please telephone John on 01462 813475.
