AND A LOVELY TIME WAS HAD BY ALL! What an excellent Fayre we had this year. The Parade, organised
through the Town Council, was excellent, but we all hope that from a small acorn can grow a large oak tree.
The weather was just about right. In fact for several years now we have had very good weather. I hope I have not
just changed our luck, and I certainly will not be asking Michael Fish to give us a forecast!
Each year we do try and vary the Arena items, but it is very difficult because to get professional entertainers is very
expensive. We have to bear in mind that the main purpose of the Summer Fayre is to provide the community with
an entertaining event, allowing local groups and charities to make some money and all this has to be run without
causing financial loss to ourselves. Any loss suffered would have to be paid for out of Christmas Lights money. If
we run a successful Fayre we do make a small profit and every penny helps us provide the Christmas Lights.
It is always difficult to gauge how many people have turned out to enjoy the Fayre. Some have said that not as
many people were there this year, while others have said there were more people there this year than last!
Our thanks go to James Stewart, Editor of the Biggleswade Chronicle, for opening our Summer Fayre and again
we must thank Matt Dorrington for providing the excellent PA system and music.
We now look forward to next year's Shefford Summer Fayre!

The Balloon Race at the Shefford Summer Fayre has given us a bit more money towards replacing some of the old
Father Christmas and Snowman displays. We should by now know who won this year's race and received the £100
prize. Thanks go to the sponsors of the Balloon Race — Country Properties (the balloons) Excom (the gas) and John
Needham Associates (the cards attached to the balloons ). It was all very colourful when the balloons were released.
Pictures are available on the Shefford Web Site (www.sheffordtown.co.uk). Details of the Balloon Race should be
available on our own Web Site (www.shefford-xmas-lights.org).
Since the last edition of Newsline appeared I have been given three types of electrical plugs that we so desperately
need. We still need more. Please look in your sheds and 'spare parts' boxes. Remember, if a plug will fit in a light
bulb holder we desperately need it!
We shall soon be busy testing all the lights and displays and generally getting ready to start putting up the lights
in the middle of October, so as to ensure that the White Hart side of the street is lit up for Bonfire Night. The
Christmas Lights will be switched on at 7pm on Friday 26th November. More details will appear in the press at a
later date, but please make a note of the date in your diary now.
