Welcome to another edition of Newsline. By the number of favourable comments we have received about the new style Newsline, it appears that most of our readers like the new format. It is always useful to have feedback as without it we do not know whether we are providing what residents want from the magazine or what else our readers would like to see us cover. If you have any comments do let me know.
Our cover photo is of the new Shefford Scout Pack, kindly supplied by their leader Diane Landau. It is always good to be able to report something positive happening in Shefford, I wish them every success.
Work has commenced on the Lower School site with four new classrooms being built to replace those in the old building. Children will still occupy the old building until all scheduled work is completed in December 2005. The fate of the old building is not yet known and will be decided by Beds County Council.
Once again we are looking for volunteers for the various groups and organisations in our community, in particular, this is the time of the year when the Lights Committee are requesting more help to put up the lights. The displays, which are erected and maintained by volunteers, I think are some of the best in the area and a real credit to the town. Don't forget to show support to the team at the switch-on, see inside for details.
Please note that copy for consideration for inclusion in the SPRING edition of NEWSLINE should reach me by January 4th 2005.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

In September, after an absence of over four years, Shefford Scouts, catering for 10.5 to 14 year olds, re-opened.
This now means that our town Scout Group is able to cater for a massive 6 to 14 year age range. After this, Scouts become a district 'owned' organisation, of which there are Explorer groups operating locally.
Although the Beaver Colony (6-8) and Cub Pack (8-10.5) are both full they do have a waiting list which they are happy to add names to - the earlier the better.
Scouts currently have 14 members, with several more due to start after Christmas.
We have exciting programmes to look forward to in the coming months, and would welcome help from parents, simply wanting to offer occasional help, or those wishing to become (or who are) warranted leaders.
We endeavour to get our members involved in community projects, galas, fayres and shows. As you would expect, the older Scouts attend hikes, camps, and a full range of other 'character building' activities, whilst all age ranges enjoy weekly team games and sports, as well as plenty of opportunity to gain knowledge and learn crafts.
We welcome Scouts, from all cultural and religious backgrounds to our weekly meetings, where they will find an environment encouraging friendship and fun.
