What a marvellous turn out there was for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The organisers managed to provide something of interest for all ages to enjoy. Congratulations to all the organisers and their helpers, they did a splendid job and were rewarded with a great turn out by the people of Shefford and the surrounding area.
The only down side to the celebrations was the unavoidable cancellation of the Summer Fayre, further news of this in the magazine.
The cover photograph, by Dave Jordan, was taken during the celebrations.
The photographic display in the church attracted a lot of attention from people of all age groups. There were those who had lived in Shefford for many years helping the newer or younger members of the community to identify where various places had been, others looking for familiar faces or recalling memories of Shefford past.
If this has aroused your interest in the history of Shefford, look out for the new ‘Shefford’ leaflet which Lorna McGregor helped to compile for Mid Beds District Council. The leaflet details historical facts about Shefford with a section that can be followed as a circular walk. What a good way to keep fit and learn about the area at the same time!
Once again the Craft and Produce Show is creeping closer. This is another community event that has something for everyone. There are classes for adults and children and a special cookery class for the men! So come on you men show the ladies what you can do! A lot of hard work goes into organising the show, so even if you do not feel able to enter do go along and support the event or pick up a Quiz Sheet from the Post Office.
Looking ahead, there will be the Annual Charter Fair in October and the Annual Bonfire and Firework Display at the White Hart in November. It is always a spectacular display and profits go to help local charities.
Regards,
Jennifer
