Editorial
Following the departure of the Rev. Jim Gorringe, I would like to welcome to Shefford the Rev. Philip Snelson and his family. I am sure they will soon feel part of the community.

There is so much going on in Shefford throughout the year. Apart from the regular meetings of clubs and groups in the town, many other activities will be taking place during the Autumn.

There are Harvest Festivals to look forward to. It is also time for the Craft and Produce Show, if you haven't entered before why not have a go this year or, if you do not feel like entering, pop along and see what others do and whilst there enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of cake. In October we have the fair, many of you will have seen how this has changed over the years, from simple rides to some of the stomach churning ones of today. Although some would not agree, it is nice for today's youngsters to be able to enjoy still the unique atmosphere of a street fair, which is after all part of our heritage.

In November the spectacular Bonfire and Firework display at the White Hart brings folk from miles around to Shefford. We are fortunate to have such community spirited people as those who organise this event in our midst. It takes a lot of time to organise these occasions.

There is also the switching on of the Christmas Lights, again the work of a few for the enjoyment of us all.

More seriously, there is our Annual Remembrance Service at the War Memorial. It is heartening to see that over the last few years the number of residents attending the service appears to have increased.

If you are a newcomer to Shefford, please join in the various activities and take a look around at the various clubs and groups that we have in the community where I am sure you will find something to suit your interest.

I understand from P.C. Clinton Blackburn that at the recent Security Stamping Session, around 70 cycles were marked. If funding becomes available the police will hold another session.

There is still some confusion about where to contact if you wish to report an incident to the police. The number to ring is (01234) 841212 not the local Police Post. An officer will then be sent from Shefford.
