Now that the Improvement Scheme is nearing completion, how the view of the High Street has changed as you look towards it from Ampthill Road. Once the contractors have moved off-site, the only thing that will spoil the view will be the ugly sight of the derelict old laundry buildings on the corner of Old Bridge Way. It certainly does nothing to enhance the conservation area, let us hope that something is done with it sooner than later and before the place falls down!
I would like to make a plea on behalf of all residents who are inconvenienced by other people parking inconsiderately There has for some considerable time been a problem with parking in Kingsmede and the local authorities are looking at ways to ease the problem. There are three parking bays in Kingsmede but when these are full, there are alternative parking bays outside the bank and in the High Street. Alternatively use the Town Meadow car park. Shefford is one place in the area that still offers free parking.
I have been asked to remind residents that the County Council has a direct help line number (01234 228661) which can be used to report faults on street lights or other County Council related problems.
I would like to welcome to the community Mrs.Tracey Calendar, the new Head Teacher of Shefford Lower School. I am sure we all wish her success in her new post.
I would like to thank the small band of volunteers who help to raise funds and put up the Christmas Light Display each year. Even though their work was hampered by the work in the High Street, the display was spectacular. It is a pity that a few anti-social youths vandalised some of the lights making the task even more difficult. Fortunately most of the young people in Shefford are good citizens and do not resort to such measures.
On the centre pages of this issue you will find printed the Timetables for the Whitbread Wanderbus, operated by Volunteer Drivers, this is a valuable asset to the local community.
Preparations are underway for the Golden Jubilee celebrations with hopefully something of interest for all ages. More detailed information should be available for the next issue.
Finally I would like to thank all our contributors.
Regards,
Jennifer
