The Lions Club of Shefford

Members of our Club would like to wish the residents of Shefford a healthy and happy 2002 and to sincerely thank them for their generous donations and support given to us before Christmas, while we were visiting all areas in Shefford and finally outside of Somerfields. It is a pleasurable experience for our members as we were so well received. For our senior citizens, we have now booked the S.T.M.A. Hall at Shefford for a Fish & Chip (or Chicken and Chip) Supper with entertainment on Saturday, 9th March. Places are limited, so we have arranged a ‘first come first served’. The nominal charge will be £2.00. During the latter half of last year, we received a letter from Shefford Lower School, asking if we could see our way clear to replace their school shed, which housed school sports equipment and had been vandalised beyond repair. We felt it would be money wasted to provide another wooden shed, so after consultation with the school suggested a metal container would be more suited to their needs. We managed to locate a unit and negotiated a price and delivery and the unit was erected on site just before Christmas. We understand the children will be involved in the next few months painting the exterior as a special project.

During the run-up to Christmas, we were requested to contact ‘Santa Claus’ for the Shefford Toddler Group to see if he would attend their Christmas Party. He was more than happy to do this and enjoyed his afternoon with the children and agreed to appear next year if requested.

Our members have agreed to carry on with the delivery of Shefford Newsline each quarter during 2002. If anyone feels they can give us a hand or would like to be involved in our work then please contact either Lion Bob or Lion Enid at the above numbers.
