Shefford is alive and buzzing with activity as preparations go ahead for the Jubilee Celebrations. As well as the celebration Street Party with stalls and music etc., planned for the 3rd of June, the Pram Race and Summer Fayre have moved their events to take place on 2nd June. I hope many of you will support these events. The Pram Race, has for many years, raised funds for Cancer Research and the Summer Fayre is the main fund raising event for the Christmas Lights Committee, which provide such magnificent light displays over the Christmas period. The funds raised go towards refurbishing and improving the lights.
Over the Bank Holiday there should be something locally for people of all ages to enjoy. Your support of the planned events will show appreciation for the efforts of the individuals who have given up their free time arranging the festivities for us all to enjoy. Look out for final details in the local press and on posters around the town.
Shefford has a new Community Beat Officer, PC Nick Battams, look out for him around the area. Within the magazine you will find the Shefford Crime Incident Report figures for March and a comparison summary of Offences Recorded for the first 3 months of the year. These figures should be of interest to you as crime is a big issue with many residents.
Perhaps this would be the right time to remind residents, now that warmer days are ahead (hopefully) to ensure that you keep sheds and garages locked and make sure to close windows and lock doors when going out in your gardens. It doesn’t take long for opportunist thieves to creep in! The elderly and those living on their own are particularly vulnerable to distraction burglary, so don’t let strangers in and check the identity of ‘officials’ before allowing them into your home. The Community Safety Forum is trying to get the Home Watch Scheme active again in Shefford. A few years ago there was a good Home Watch Scheme, if the revival is successful, it will show the community helping in the fight against crime.
The Town Band is still looking for a percussionist who can read music to join them. If you think you may be able to help, please contact Mrs.J.Steinfeld on 6229026 for more details.
Dog owners amongst us should note the new regulations brought into force by Mid Beds, ignorance is no excuse and could prove costly!
Regards,
Jennifer
