EDITORIAL
Summer is a busy time in Shefford, with many organisations arranging special fundraising events also, the Gala, from which profits go to fund the Christmas Lights.
It was lovely to receive articles from so many different organisations, some of which I have not heard from before. If your group has not contacted me either with an article or dates of your meetings or events, think about it for the next issue, let's have even more variety. I would like to give a special mention to Shefford Shout Out, the newly formed Youth Council, it is good to see the young people working for the youth of Shefford.
Now that the weather has turned warmer, perhaps you may feel like going out for a meal instead of sitting at home in the warm. For those of you who do not like eating in a smoky atmosphere, you may be interested to know that Mid Beds District Council has published a No Smoking Guide for Mid Bedfordshire. Inside is a list of premises which serve food and have at least 20% of the dining area for non-smokers. Many premises featured in the guide have much larger areas than this. It also shows which premises have easy access for the disabled, although most premises would be willing to offer assistance. The guide is being distributed to Libraries, Action Points, Tourist Information Centres, District Council Offices and other outlets.
You may have noticed a lot of publicity in the local press about the `Poop Scoop Law' which has now been adopted by Mid Beds. The legislation is not designed to restrict people exercising their dogs but to ensure a cleaner and healthier neighbourhood. If you have any queries about the legislation, or would like to receive an information pack including free poop scoop, please contact Mid Beds. Dog Warden Service on (01767 602390. The worst areas for dog fouling in Shefford are Bellcote Meadow and the STMA sports field so please dog owners always carry a plastic bag with you when walking your dog and clear up after it, don't leave it for someone else to do.
I hope you all enjoy the Summer and that we get some good weather for all the events going on in Shefford.
