TOWN COUNCIL NEWS
After the wettest April this century it is cheering to look forward once more to summer sunshine and, of course, to Shefford Gala. At the Gala on the 2lst June the Town Council intend to have a stall which will act as an `Action Point' and information centre. And don't forget summer is the time to plan your entries for the Craft and Produce Show which is on the l2th September this year.
During the past year the Town Council has welcomed the opportunity to walk the streets and pavements of Shefford with a member of the County Council's Highway Department. This has resulted in a number of dangerous problems being dealt with much more quickly than in the past. This programme will be continuing in the coming year so if you are aware of any problems please let a member of the Town Council know about it.
The new town sign should be in place by the end of June. The land for the new play area has been cleared thanks to the efforts of volunteers and the first phase will start as soon as various legal matters are cleared up. The Parish Paths Partnership and the Guides were busy in National Springclean Week clearing footpaths and play areas of rubbish - seventeen bags were collected!!! The Council Chambers has a new flagpole and the flags have been weighted so that, hopefully they will hang straight down and not wrap themselves around the pole.
Lastly, the Town Councillors and Clerk manned the Meeting Room so that bus passes could be collected locally Although there were some teething problems the facility was obviously popular since more than three hundred passes were distributed.
SHEFFORD ACORN PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUP
At our AGM on 11th May we elected our new Committee: Chairperson Colleen Wood; Vice-Chairperson Jackie Munn; Treasurer Nicki Price; Secretary Adele Hamilton, plus other members.
We aim to have a major investment in new toys and equipment. A large amount of our equipment is in need of replacement, so we would be grateful to receive any donations of suitable unwanted toys, books, jigsaw puzzles, ride-on-toys, etc. that you may be willing to contribute.
We also require a large shelving unit for storage purposes, can anyone help?
