Welcome to the last Shefford Newsline of the Millennium. The new Millennium gives us a chance to reflect upon the many changes that have occurred in our society over the past century and how these changes have affected our own community and lives. It is also a time to look forward and see how we can help improve our own community and what goes on in it.
We should also remember the religious aspect of the new Millennium and what it means to Christians all over the world. There will be an Ecumenical Civic Service on 2nd January to which all groups and organisations will be invited.
People often say to me that there is nothing to do in Shefford. I wonder how many of these same people are prepared to help with existing activities or to start up something new? Groups all over Shefford are crying out for people to help with the organisation of events. We are in danger of losing the Gala because the organisers need more help, also the Craft and Produce Show is looking for more support from the community
I now have a list of organisations in Shefford, but not many contacts for groups in the Regular Meetings Section of the magazine I do need contact names, where you meet and at what time. If you are the contact for a group please let me have the details for inclusion in the next issue. Following publication of the last issue of Newsline, I received letters applauding the fixed penalty fines for pavement cycling. Unfortunately this has not acted as a deterrent to the offenders. So, cyclists if you are on the pavement with your machine, walk! and spare a thought for the pedestrians!
Once again the Annual Bonfire and Fireworks at the White Hart were spectacular. Our thanks go to all the people who make this event possible.
The Christmas Lights will be switched on this year on 3rd December. The reason for them not being displayed on the lamp posts this year is explained elsewhere in this magazine.
Have you seen on on sale in the library the Shefford 2000 Book of pen and ink drawings by Stuart Hodgson. Proceeds from the sale of the book are to go to the Building for the Community Fund.
It just remains for me to wish you all
A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
Jennifer
